What is phone "bluetooth"?

My phone, {Verizon Wireless} has a bluetooth option on it, and I am not sure what it is. What does it do? Does it cost money? All information would be appreciate. Thanks!

bluetooth is two things. one, yu have a handsfree piece that goes in your ear to talk to people on. but most peopel know it for connecting to others phones to transfer & share contacs, pictures and ringtones

bluetooth is where you can hook up your phone to a computer or a hands free head set.you can send stuff from your phone to someone elses phone, or from the computer to your phone.the computer and phone must have bluetooth to work.it is also completly free
