I'm an experienced gm tech but without a proper scan tool, I am kinda diagnosing blindfolded. it's a 93 Jeep cherokee sport, 4.0. OBD1. about July 09 it was running, not well, but running. Would not always crank over. Found that the distributor pick coil had come apart, replaced distributor. For intermittent no crankover I rebuilt the transmission range switch(corroded0. Now it cranks every time but will not start. I have no spark at coil and no power to coil. Auto shut down relay is functional and energizes when ignition is turned on and de-energizes after 3-5 seconds as described in online diagnosis guide(alldata). From what I understand, the ecm needs to see crankshaft revolution and be timed correctly with camshaft(using distributor pick up coil) before shutdown relay is re energized. I have no way to tell if ecm is cooked, seems to be operating as it should. Crankshaft sensor is a 3 wire sensor, that test out okay, however am not sure what reading i should get from the volt meter when crankshaft is rotating to see if it is actually picking up anything from the crankshaft sensor. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
