What is it with Asian culture and scars on unmarried women?

Japan, Taiwan, China...

Everywhere I look, it's the same thing. If an unmarried woman has a scar, it's like the end of the world. All of a sudden, she's damaged property just because she has a scar or two. What's the deal?

Disclaimer: I'm not downing anyone's culture or anything like that. I just wanted a little clarification.
I'm probably making a big deal out of nothing again. Stupid dramas and manga mention circumstances like that so frequently (examples: Ah Jin and Christine in the t-drama They Kiss Again & Mizuki and Sakuya in the manga Kaikan Phrase) that I thought it was an actual cultural...thing.

I apologize for my ignorance.

I don't believe this happens. I've never heard of it, and I couldn't care less (obviously it could lead to some interesting stories but that's all it is).

They probably used it as a plot device in those dramas. LOL, using a few fictional characters in some dramas that happen to be Asian isn't very good source material to extrapolate to everything else.

What the... I'm Chinese and I don't care if a unmarried girl has a scar or whatever. In fact the current girl I like has a big scar and I wish I can help her forget about it...
