As the United States approaches what is likely its most important election in two decades we have an unprecedented opportunity to see the campaigns focus on the issues. With the world brought into such close contact through electronic media we have an opportunity for the public to dictate what gets talked about, so why is it, that already, before the nominating conventions, before the campaigns have even really gotten underway we're already seeing knee-jerk emotional mudslinging? Can't we assume that both John McCain and Barack Obama love the US equally and that they just have different views on how to run the country? Can't we listen to them for what they have to say instead of dismissing their ideas out of hand based on the party they're aligned with? They say it's the moderates, the swing vote that decides an election, for once, just once shouldn't everyone be the swing vote and just listen and consider what's being said?
