What is it like having a lip piercing? Does it look weird when you take it out?

Does it hurt alot when you get it pierced?
And does it look odd when you take out the jewelry, or is it just like an ear piercing?

It doesn't hurt when it's pierced, you feel a prick I suppose.
I've taken out my stud now permanently, the inside has healed but you can still see the trace where it was on the outside; looks like a hole that doesn't go all the way through.
