I am 9 weeks post 4 level lurabar fusion and in the last 2 to 3 weeks I have developed the most annoying problem. I feel like I am being bitten by something all over my body. There will be a "gnat bite" here then there all day and night, but there is nothing there. This is going on everywhere not just the areas affected by my back issues, so I do not know if one thing has anything to do with the other.

And NO, I do not have cooties!

The only things I can think of are 1. are you on any new medicines or have the dosages been changed? and 2. have you changed laundry detergent or softener?

Those things can cause itching where there is nothing to see as can a different food, etc.

Maybe someone else will have some other suggestions. Ask your dr. if you can take benedryl to help with the symptoms.

Hi drpepper,

It is everywhere, head, face, arms, legs and truck (which really sucks with this dang turtle shell brace).

It sounRAB like it is a reaction to the darvocet or something. Have the considered changing the darvocet?

Carol,

Thanks for the quick reply. This is not the type of itching I have gotten from drug allergies. That reaction I can only describe as skin crawling. This is much sharper like a bite or pin *****. Other than that, I have not changed anything. I really hope it is not my pain med, as I am allergic to most. I am down to Darvocet. Med personnel can't figure out how I can do it on just that, but it is a really good thing I have a very high tollerance for pain (have to). Normally I only use anti-inflamatories, but of course with a fusion I can not.

That's strange , the only time I heard anyone mention this is with Narcotic's.
I don't think Darvocet could do it ? I would ask your Dr. about that..

Well, I went to the doctor today, and she had no idea what was causing the sensation. She did not think it was the darvocet. It is not unbearable yet, so she said to just keep her posted. Isn't it fun to stump the doctors too! :bouncing:

Freda Kahlo complained of those symptoms. She had terrible accident and broke her back and pelvis amongst other things. There is a famous painting of hers called 'Shattered Pelvis'- she demonstrates your symptoms through the pins on her body.
