Thanks everyone, Im sure today will go fine. I'm about to leave to go get it done. Tammy, im just having the barium swallow done today. Depending on this result is whether i have to get the endoscopy done. I pray that nothing besides maybe a hernia shows. I hope that there isn't any damage in there.

MR, i also had the lung function test done and it came back very good also. He said it wasn't as good as a lot of people can do but it wasn't bad. My pulmonlogist thinks i was probably just having a good day, and believes that i probably still do have a little bit of asthma but it was controlled.

I am doing okay today,, just a little shaky from having blood sugar issues and not being able to eat, doesnt mix that well.

Thats good that the medicine is working so far! Good luck with it not causing any other side effects!

I am hoping my upper GI results are in tomorrow and hopefully my doctor will call me and let me know. It will have been three days and she said it would be 3 or 4. So tomorrow or monday! hopefully tomorrow!!!

YEah i wasnt expecting them to tell me anything. They never do. They did show me all my xrays and explained some about what i was looking at but of course did not explain if anything looked bad.

Did u feel sick after yours?? I think the barium stuff has really upset my stomach. I dont feel good at all. They told me to drink lots of fluiRAB and try to stay upright a bit to help it get through the rest of my system.

The endoscopy might show the inside more than the barium swallow did.
Not sure.

I was thinking hiatel hernia too (maybe) if so the GI will show that? i would have thought if there was one it would have showed up on the ultrasound??
If they don't find anything will the endoscope be the next test? ugh, hope not.......bride527

Mr. dr. had a cancellation and i am going tomorrow morning for the endoscope. I am so relieved to be getting this over with. Hopefully i will find out why the heartburn and pain. It is a knawing pain that i don't seem to have much when i first wake up but as the day goes by it gets stronger.....It is definitely getting worse, then when it first started a couple of months ago. Reflux? ulcer? i wonder.
Wish me luck and I will post tomorrow when I get home (if I am not to out of it).......thanks to all bride527

DrabF, for a hernia which one do you think they would do first? my doctor said probably an upper gi, but i was thinking, usually they want to get a biopsy which would require an endoscopy..

any idea??

Yes, I know that pepcid ac causes dizziness and headache. That is what you are probably feeling. I take it too and get the same thing!! :-}

You can have reflux with a normal EGD. If you truly think that you may have reflux, a pH test will confirm it.

I've had 2 normal Endoscopies with 2 pH tests that show severe reflux. In my case, the reflux was aggrevating my lungs. Everyont has different symptoms.

I've had a lot of testing this past year to identify the severity of my reflux problems.

I had a Modified Barium Swallow and Esophagram that was recommended by my Pulmonologist. They both involve swallowing Barium. With one, I drank the Barium, ate a soft thing with Barium and ate a couple different types of soliRAB with Barium. The radiologist and a speech therapist observed my chewing and swallowing process. They could see the food and acid coming back up and the acid hitting my lungs. With the other test, they had me swallow fizzy Barium and drink tons of thick liquid Barium. They put me in various positions both sitting and lying flat. This was the first test that identified that I had a sliding hernia.

I had a EGD next. This was my second in the last several years. That test identified that thankfully I didnt' have esophageal damage from the reflux. It also confirmed the hernia. (Which wasn't there during my first test several years ago.)

I had a Manometry and 24 hr pH next. This was a second round of these tests too. The Manometry is a probe that measures the strength of your lower esophageal sphincter and the motility in your esophagus. My LES is extremely week, thus allowing the refluxing. The 24 hr pH was a probe that is left in place for 24 hours and attached to a computer. It measures all refluxing incidents and the duration of them. The doc then reaRAB the results on the computer and translates that into a "score" that identifies how bad the reflux was. From what I understand anything over 14 will get a diagnosis of GERD. I believe my last score was a 38. The doc said that confirmed my reflux was extremely severe. Ironically, I was feeling really good on the day of the test. Makes me wonder how it would have been on a bad day.

Bride, it will really be up to your doc as to what treatment he wants to follow. Some want other confirmations. Other will base some original treatment based upon a single test. Endoscopies are fairly common though.

I had multiple tests because my treatments had stopped working and they were required by my insurance before I could have surgery. My case was kind of extreme though. My reflux was affecting my breathing.

By the way, while none of the tests was fun, I didn't have any problems actually taking any of them.

Had my Upper GI test yesterday it wasn't that bad.....of course they don't tell you anything, the dr. has to call me.......
I have the same pain, i will let you know how my test come out....I am thinking maybe a hernia too.....bride527

Oh yeah please do, mine is on tuesday this week. Im a little scared of what they are going to tell me. What did you have to do for the upper gi?

HI Em! Glad you got that over. Did they tell you anything? Let us know when you find out. I have been praying. Chantal, I am praying for you too! You will do great tomorrow! Just relax, okay! You are in good hanRAB. They do these procedures all the time. If you feel up to it, come and post on here after you are back home and relaxing. Only if you can or want to.

I called the Pepcid AC hotline today and asked about their ingredients. They say there are no artificial sweetners in the product. So I took one at lunch time. I haven't noticed much yet, but I hope I am not imagining things but my stomach is starting to feel bloated and my appetite isn't so good tonight. Kind of nauseated again. I swear these darn pills are just no good for the body. Surely the natural cure is the way to go. I hate side effects. It makes me so mad. All we wanna do is feel good again. Please keep asking me if maybe I am getting gall bladder trouble. Good grief I hope not! There is nothing else wrong with me. I only feel real bad when I take these acid reflux pills. Now I feel constipated.

Ok enough about me. Girls keep us posted! I will pray tonight and tomorrow ok! Hugs!

Hey guys, i got my results of my upper gi,, and everything looked fine!
Oh joy!

So my doctor wasnt going to do anything else, but my mom made them refer me elsewhere or bring me in asap. They said they would bring me in on there first canceled appointment, and if im in pain to the er. She said they will order me a cat scan to see if that shows anything.

Something is wrong. This is incredibly painful and im getting so tierd of this..

I cant go much longer with this pain!!!

Good luck and God bless, Em!

I'll be praying for you.

My tests are tomorrow morning. I'm having both EGD and colonoscopy. I'm scared as tests really make me anxious.

Take care.

Chantal

Hi tammy, So am i, not they havent told me anything. they kinda explained what i was looking at but they never told me the final of what if anything they found. My doctor is supposed to call me by the end of the week with the results and then i will let you guys know what she says. I am thinking i probably will be going back to the doctors next week to one: talk about surgery and two: talk about how we are going to get me out of pain.

Tammy, They will find out whats wrong with you. Try to stick with the non medicine since that seems to be what works for you. Dont give up! What does ur doctor have to say about this????

Im going to get my upper gi in the morning and im praying that something shows up , as bad as that sounRAB, but if nothing comes out of it, then we are back to trying to get my bad pain under control. My stomach is in a huge cramp and im trying not to worry, im know something is wrong in there, i just want others to believe me and if this comes back normal,, i dont think they will.

SOrry, I don't know for sure. If it is a hernia, I think it would have to do with how big it is, where it is, if it is seen on the UPPER GI series. I think I remeraber being told AFTER the endoscopy that I didn't have a hernia, not the GI series, but that was 2.5 years ago so I can't say for sure. It is stressful waiting for any kind of test, and wondering WHY they are doing it, but we must be grateful that we live in an era and a place in the world where they can do these things, figure out what is going on (hopefully!!!), and then plan from there.

Good luck to you too and I hope you are able to have the GI done. I know that test is pretty easy and they check the stomach out. I really hope that is the end of this test stuff. I want to know what is causing the pain but tests really stress me out.
