I have read over all of the post here and I am so glad I did; I thought I was crazy I kept telling my PCP about my stomach pain and he just said it was gas... NO it was not gas, he finally referred me to gastrologist and I have severe esophogitis, my voice has been going hoarse for over a year, they did the endoscopy to find out. He put me on previcid and told me to stop smoking and drinking... I don't smoke or drink, so I am trying out this medication and I see him again in a week to find out the rest of the results. I am not glad anyone is going thru this same pain, I wished everyone was pain free but I am certainly glad that I read this post the pain some of you guys have is exactly what I feel...

I am sure that they didn't tell you anything. They want the dr. to call you. i hate the waiting..
I called my dr. today to ask if i should continue with the Prilisec even though all tests came back normal, (GI , ultrasound)....she said to stop and if the pain comes back (not that it has really gone).......she would like to do an endoscope. I told her that i think my pain is muscular, she says she thinks so too. But if it continues she wants me to call her. What would the endoscope show that the GI did not......bride527

Thanks! My stomach is feeling a little bit better, but there is a flu going around and i think i came down with it today. Yuck. Not what i need, missed enough school as is. Sorry Tammy that they arent helping!

Hi everyone, Ive read through all the posts and have got great assurance from them, Ive had chest pain and reflux for years and have had endoscopy and ultrasound (abdominal) all came back normal, I was taken zoton and was getting no releif so I stopped it and just take gaviscon now but my problem is the pain, Ive been getting it for years and it still floors me every time. It makes me soooo anxious, Im dreading going to bed tonight as Ive had a particularly bad day pain wise. Ive become aggrophobic in the past from this constant chest pain and I'm fed up going to docs and having tests..........thanks for listening any help would be apreciated

Good luck Em! I will pray for you! You will get it figured out. I don't want there to be anything wrong in there, so we will pray for that result. But I do understand that it would be nice to figure it out and maybe if they find a hernia or ulcer they can treat it and it would explain while you are feeling so bad.

Mine showed nothing, but I still have reflux and my breathing is effected and I get a sore chest. Those things are real So I just have to treat it on my own and keep it under control. Otherwise I will have to find other doctors to check things around this area in my body and see what's going on. Kind of a process of elimination.

You will be fine honey. Are you doing the endoscopy? Or just swallowing something. I am not sure if I read wether you are or not. It seems that you weren't planning on that just yet. Anyhow...you will be fine! Hugs!

Have you tried a wedge? I know alot of people here don't recommend them because of the tummy crunching thing. But I bought one off of Amazon and quite honestly it has been fantastic for me. It has eliminated relfux in the night for me. I don't wake up with any in my mouth and my stomach feels pretty good in the morning. For me it works well. It just depenRAB on the person. Just a thought.

Also I have been soaking in the lavendar epson salts all weekend. They have helped my sore behind from the IBS. I have had a bout of it this weekend. It relaxed my whole body and is helping with healing. Good stuff! I thank God for these products.

I had similar pain to you and after endoscopy was diagnosed with mild gastritis, small hiatus hernia and reflux.I take nexium which controls the lot. The procedure was nothing. Good luck.

HI, i also have a ton of pain. I used to have it on the sides, but that has mostly gone away. I am on nexium and zantac. I still have a ton of pain all the time right on top of my stomach. My doctors think i have a hiatal hernia and i was supposed to go for an upper gi, but now my doctors office is saying they dont treat hiatal hernias so now i am still trying to get an appointment there to see if she is going to at least send me for the upper gi and make sure that is what is wrong.

The flu is going around here too. I pray I don't get it. Sorry you got it Em.
I guess I am taking Pepcid, not Previcid. I get the names all wrong. I took another one today. So far so good.

Hey guys, Have any of you guys found out a way to sleep comfortably at night??
Last night the same spot as usual on the left side of my stomach was puffy and hurting a ton. I tried to get comfortable, and sleep so im not on it but nothing was working.!!!

I finally got up half way through the night when i still couldnt get to bed and took a tylenol PM and then i feel asleep. I hate taking them so often though, so i really need to figure out a way to sleep without them and not be in so much damn pain. Usually when i take them though, i still feel the tylenol part in the morning for a while, but today my stomach still hurts,, not quite as bad though.\

Please help!

Tammy, I agree that epson salt is the amazing thing that has always helped me for no matter what was bothering me! If i ever got hurt during basketball that was the only thing they advised me to do, unless it was super bad.

hi could someone please tell me what sort of pain the hernia would cause. ive had unexplaine stomach/back problems for 6/7 wks now,ill keep it short but has been low back pain, sharp pains in sides and horrible pain around/above belly and some chest pain.. i really need to find out why im getting this so i can get rid of it!!!lol!!! thanks x

If mine is a hernia, then i have it right on top of where my stomach, and then with the gerd it is common to have it on top of ur back and your sides. If you cough a lot then that can also make your sides sore.

Hope that helps.

When I had my first symptoms, I had the UPPER GI series done, and that was "unremarkable" but then my dr. still wanted the Endoscopy, which I didn't understand. He said that it looks at the inside of the esophagus, stomach, and top of intestines, and can detect inflammation that the other test can't (unless it was major and involved swelling). The Upper GI is an ongoing x-ray of barium going down, so they can see if it gets pushed back up, if there are any major constrictions/obstructions, etc. The endoscopy is looking at the actual insides of your body with a scope......so don't be alarmed if they still want to do both.

I guess mine is called the barium swallow cuz like i said in the above email i drank the chalky stuff. Will the dr. want me to do an edoscope next or is this the end of this kind to test??? bride527

I too feel for anyone who has pain but I felt like i was the only one with this pain......My tests have come back normal to thus far. I did call and schedule the endoscope finally. but they haven't called me back with the date yet......I a getting anxious about this test but i keep telling my self that all the other tests look good so hopefully this will show something (if it does) which is not too serious. I am so sick of the pain. I have always been pain free up until a few months ago. and never ever had a digestive problem . this is all so new to me....I get anxious about the pain too. it seems like that is all i have been thinking about lately...Do you think i will get answers from the scope??? hang in there all......bride527

Ok what exactley does the pain feel like,is it burning, gnawing,or pressure like? What your describing sounRAB alot like what i experience on an on going basis.Ifs its the problem im experiencing, be prepared to maybe not ever find out what the problem is.Going on 3 yrs now ive been having pain under my right breastbone .Mostly like heavy pressure almost a gnawing feeling, like when your tummy is empty.Ive been thru every test they could throw at me,except and mri.Ive even had some tests done twice. The doctors gave up because they couldnt pin it down, told me i would just have to learn to live with the pain.I also have ibs and acid reflux. The meRAB im on take care of the reflux, but does nothing for the pain under the breastbone.I sure hope that this problem your having is not the same problem im having.Just though id mention this in case all your tests come back negative.Take care.:(

Are you sleeping on an incline? If not, you should try propping up your headboard about 6 inches. A couple bricks will work. I just went to a local bed an bath store and bought some of those bed risers that they sell so create storage space under the bed. Just used the two at the head of the bed though. Doing this puts your stomach lower than your esophagus and allows gravity to help you out some. Don't try just propping on pillows. It will actually squish your stomach and through your system out of alignment.

Sleeping on your left side is the recommended position. You can see why if you look at a picture of your stomach. May be difficult for you though.

Have you tried a heating pad on your stomach? I use one of those cloth bags with rice that I have heated in the microwave. It gives me some temporary relief as I fall asleep.

Don't worry about the endoscopy, its nothing believe me, they will give you sedation and you wont feel a thing. Good luck and try not to worry........
