what is gain on the amp?

I got one 600 watt rms mtx jh600 amp at 2 ohms powering one rockford t1 which is also 600 watts rms. the guy who installed it did not turn the gain all the way high. he said he has is on 70 %. so does that mean if i turn the volume and bass in my headunit all the way to full, and bass remote on full. i will only get 70% of 600 watts?? btw, the bass boost on the amp is off.
 
if you trun your gain up all the way you risk either overpowering the speaker and frying it. or you mite overwork your amp and fry it too. plus it sounds kinda shity when u have it all the way up....it's not as clear. play it safe and stay at 70. mess with your lpf and hpf if you got them...and try turn down the gain and trun bass boost on. play with it til it sounds the way u like it
