What is English food like; I heard the UK media were shocked because tv star...

...Simon Cowell held an ostentasious? 50th b'day bash recently........but the food served sounds strange choices; margherita pizza, salmon triangles, yorkshire puddings, alphabet spaghetti, chicken soup pourred over pasta, cottage pie, fishfingers with chips, and bread & butter pudding. So are the English a little unsophisticated when it comes to food...if these were served at a 50 year old's party, and the English media thought it was glamorous?
 
The food was not meant to be glamorous. It was based on his favorite foods (some from childhood) and was meant to be somewhat humorous. The rest of the party was over-the-top.
