Why have we abandoned the "Garden of Eden" and chosen to become "civilized" when the hunter/gatherers are much more happy than we seem to be. They work very little (and are working together), they live to about the same age as the "civilized" people in the world, everyone is socially equal and war or violence RARELY exists!

Why have we abandoned this??

I hope to get many ideas on this topic (for a World Civ. class) so I may research for an essay!
But why did we choose to follow the european customs?
And what is your definintion of civilization?

Most didn't "abandon" this way of life. Europeans forced their "civilized" ways upon Aboriginal people in every continent that they went to.

because hunting and gathering is just such a pain in the ass

people did not just say, oh! i have a great idea civilization!...it happened because people started domesticating animals, and planting crops...after we figured out how to do this...there was no need to hunt or gather...thus civilization and societies were created
