Bootcamp is a software that comes with your OS X Leopard (10.5.1+) Mac and what it does is it seperates your hard drive into a Windows section and a Mac section. You will be able to run both operating systems whenever you like. And with some 3rd party applications you can run Windows and OS 10 side by side on the same screen.

To set-up Bootcamp launch Finder and navigate to System>Utilities. Launch Bootcamp Assistance, a new window should pop up. You will go through a set-up seperating your hard drive partitions. You must have a Windows XP, Vista, or 7 32bit operating system for Bootcamp to work. Put the installation disc in and the operating system will start to install. Once the installation is done you'll be able to use both Windows and OS 10.

Note that Bootcamp only works on Intel Mac, Macs with PowerPC processors will not be able to use Bootcamp.

If you do have a Windows partition on your Mac every time you turn on your Mac you'll get a choice between the two operating systems. You can boot either one of them.

Is it basically like dual boot on desktops where you boot up can boot up different versions of windows on different drive partitions or is it like a windows software emulator like virtualpc is on windows but for the mac?

The answer will affect whether i get a Mac Book or a laptop.
Basically, is it like turning the Mac into a laptop running windows?
Thanks i always thought boot camp was just some virtual OS in the Mac OS.
That makes me think... what about the Mac OS on PC...
