eCommerce needs a lot of structure and you will find Zend a very capable framework using PHP. With a framework approach you get a lot of leverage changing templates to run a web site instead of having to locate code on every last little changes to each page that would need attention.
There are many framework systems, such as Joomla!, Dupral, etc. but I think the combination of LAMP -- Linux, Apache, MySql, python-PHP-Perl and Zend is the most cost effective and most versatile. Zend is closest to the style of PHP coding. Several computer books available showing you step by step on an eCommerce install using Zend. (There is also WAMP for Win people).
ASP is Microsoft and that means MS grants you a license to use and, in turn, they promise they can discontinue support at any time without notice. You do NOT own Miscrosoft products, read the EULA.
