What is better, a self powered subwoofer or a component subwoofer?

Im looking to upgrade the sound in my 300zx and i dont not have a lot of space to work with. I was looking at getting a self powered sub, like an infinity basslink or something by MTX. If i were to get a component sub and hook it up to and amp, i would need a small box, like a truck box. So what has a better sound? Im just worried that the powered sub wont have the deepness of something in a box
 
Well the self powered subs not gonna be as powerful as most component set ups but anything made by infinity I've ever heard sounds good I have kappa tweeters that I love. If your trying to add a little bit of bass to your set up the basslink will be sufice but if your trying to rattle windows and have old people yell at you then your gonna need a component set up.
