What is Arizona wildlife like?

I'm moving to Phoenix soon and I am deathly afraid of snakes and totally grossed out with huge spiders and scorpions. I'm super paranoid about opening my front door in the morning and finding a rattler; I hear horror stories of finding huge tarantulas in beds and scorpions coming out of shower drains. Is it really like this there? Somebody tell me the truth!

Actually, finding trantulas and scorpions in your house isn't that uncommon but I wouldn't worry about it. Seal your doors and close your windows and you'll be fine. As for snakes and lizards, they won't just be at your door. They'll be near shrubs and rocks. Just watch wear you step and listen for any rattles and you'll be alright. Even if you're bit, there are plenty of hospitals in Pheonix with neurotoxins and antitoxins (or whatever) to take care of it.

EDIT: Sorry, but you won't always hear a rattle before a strike but just try to stay in open areas and keep a good watch.

I've been living in AZ for 6 years and I've only seen one scorpion. It all depends on where you live. Friends of mine are killing scorpions left and right. If you move into a house that is on their migration pattern then you will have scorpion problems. I know one person who got bit by a rattler on camelback mountain, but that's in the wilderness....sort of. I doubt you'll see one at your house. Scorpions will be your only concern. And even though their sting hurts like living hell, you won't die. To be honest with you the heat is what I hate about AZ. The animals are the least of my concern.
