What is Andrea Mantegna trying to portray about Jesus in "The Crucifixion"

I can see the bad thief is in the shadows and the good one is in the light and i can see the skulls "place of the skull" but I'm trying to decide on a specific description of Jesus: theres blood running down and I know he's already dead, but I don't know if mantegna is trying to show him as suffering or divine because of he's in the light...

I don't know, I sound really stupid, exactly why I need help. What would you say?

P.S: This is for my Religion class, I am not christian, please don't spam :)
