What is an image file? please help.?

I downloaded something but it gave me an image file of that data what should I do I am stuck
 
open the image file on an appropriate program to view your image. for example if the image file is JPG try opening it on photoshop or even microsoft word. different programs can open different file types. you just have to find the right one. (try right clicking on the file and selecting open with... then choose a program. hope this helps.
 
If you can't open the file with picture viewer, rename the file: change the name to filename.gif (or jpg, or whatever) to filename.doc
