What is an anime fan?

Love and dedication is all you need to be a fan. All you need is some curiosity so you can seek out different works from an animation studio, writer, director, etc. But liking a medium for its art and style is a good start for a fan.

Now if you were trying to figure out which voice actor, writer, artist, animation studio, or director were involved let alone looking at the end credits of every episode, that would make you an aficionado; you could probably land yourself in the industry with that kind of passion lol.

So how do you define an anime fan?
A person who can name all the girls in the following image:

Balsamic Vinegar, Choco Cornet, Jenny Craig, and Encyclopedia Dramatica. See what I did?

Why is Miyuki now named Encyclopedia Dramatica? Shouldn't she be little Miss Moe or did I miss something about her character.

Anyway, I think more than just enjoying anime, a fan should be willing to support the industry (such as buying manga or DVDs).

Let me put it this way, if you own a huge harddrive of anime and gloat about how you never have to buy anime and it's all for free, you're not a fan.

I don't think truer words were ever spoken.

An anime fan is someone who likes anime first and foremost. Secondly he or she also should buy the shows they really like or least be willing to if they had the economic means. This distinguishes a fan from a leach or pirate and is fairly important to me, because if nobody supports the people putting this stuff out then they can't continue to do business.

I guess, I'm not an anime fan then, despite have seen about 800 titles.

I could tell you which series they're from though.

Hmm I guess I myself am a growing anime fan, IMO.

I spend more time studying, working and going to school to buy alot of series, but I buy those that really catch me...currently about 10 complete series mostly singles and a few thin packs, and to watch new series I have a crunchyroll account to watch my weekly series, and older stuff I have yet to.

Hopefully one day I can make it big and really buy way more stuff, but then again I am still semi new to anime..soooo

Dozo Yoroshiku

Yeah that at least is true. Nothing wrong with watching fansubs but if you don't respect the industry enough to put some money back for the shows you love then it's not really fandom.

The simplistic questions from Garfield and the verbose post of Zin5ki read truer without opening a pandora's box.

Sorry to burt yer bubble but that describes everyone on the planet.

Anime fans just let themselves in on their secrets. Making them fundamentally more honest than most XD
