The more north you go, the cheaper it is to live. I have lived all up and down california. Orange County, Kern County, and up by Sacramento. I lived in Bakersfield for really cheap. I had a 3 room apartment for 620.00 a month. I had a 3 room house in Roseville for 900.00 a month....and down here in orange county. its over a grand for a one bedroom 900 SQ FT apartment. Its rediculous.

Salinas is pretty reasonable, and over the hill from there is Carmel by the Sea and Monterey.... both with great oceanside hiking.

...for hiking? I'm looking to become an actor, and it would be nice if there were some part time jobs avalible. I am a fairly active person, and I love to go hiking. So mountains would be cool. If there is a beach nearby, that would be fantastic.

There are no affordable places to live in CA. If you want to pursue acting you'll need to be in the L.A. area.

Pretty much anywhere in that area you can be at the beach or in good hiking country within an hour.
