What is a very cheap car to insure?

So my fiancee wants to get driving. We want to know what kind of car to buy that will be the cheapest to insure and run. We really don't know anything about cars so just wanted to ask you guys. If anyone could give us rough figures it would be great (he is nineteen, we can have off street parking).
 
Any car that is a little older and is not on the list of thief popular cars.
