What is a transparency (when talking about digital photography)?

Recently, I have been interested in getting my photographs published in multiple magazines. But many say, "no original transparencies accepted". What does the word "transparancies" mean when talking about digital photography?

Thanks for the help.

Unrelated to digital photography.

It means the publication does not accept original slides or sheets of chrome film.

(It may or may not mean that they will accept duplicate slides. They could be a digital only publication. Duplicate slides typically look terrible.)
