Hello,

We have a Rainbow Lorikeet (Frex) who once was wonderful. He lived at our Garden Centre and spent many hours each day on my shoulder, interacting with the public and having a great time eating the native Grevilleas and bathing in the numerous water features. He started biting when I would need to remove him from a water feature to serve a customer. When I said ''no'' to him, he just said 'NO' louder and then laughed. After biting, he would sulk for a day or two. As he could not be trusted anymore with the public, he came home. That was much safer until my daughter moved out. Amazingly, Frex formed an attachment to her just that week and must have been furious as the next time I took him out, instead of quickly hopping up my arm to give me a kiss, he slowly walked up to my shoulder then bit me quite badly on my cheek. I turned to say no and he bit me on the lip, going right through the lip. I then tried to push him away and he bit through two of my fingers. It was so traumatic that he has not been out of his cage since. That was a year ago. Now, I have to use oven gloves to go into his cage to replace food water etc. If he sees any skin, he's over to bite it immediately. He is wonderful in every other way, and we are so sad about the way things have turned out. I am so scared of him now, as he tries to bite on every occasion. We love him dearly, he talks really well, and is a comedian, but it feels as if he has us in a checkmate position.

Because of Frex, we need to find a bird who will not become nasty. We have a wonderful cage and all of our staff are friendly and loving. Our Garden Centre is a perfect place for a bird. I would really appreciate any suggestions.

A friend suggested a Baby Galah, but upon reading about them, it appears that they too can become aggressive.

Thank you so much, Gena
