Pathos-an appeal to the audiences emotions and sympathies through a character.We empathize with the character because of his kind nature and caring heart.Such as a character letting a kid have his ice cream because the kid dropped his own.
Save The Cat-the character does something to endear himself to the audience so they can see through a tangible act that he's a good guy.
