You can use your P-80 like Tone Generator (TG) (case 1) and/or Like MIDI Controller (case 2).
Your computer will be the MIDI Recorder.
MIDI messages are not audio signals, they are only instruction about what key you are playing, what kind of timbre you like to use.
A Tone Generator read this messages and convert this control signal to audio signal.
Case 1:
[P-80.MIDI Out]--MIDI Cable-->[Computer.Sequencer]-->---MIDI Cable-->[P-80.MIDI In]-->Headphone
Case 2:
[P-80.MIDI Out]--MIDI Cable-->[Computer.Sequencer]-->---Virtual MIDI Cable-->[virtual TG]-->PC Speaker
