I am planning for my English Literature dissertation. The general area I wish to study is the effect Charles Darwin's "On the Origin of Species" had upon the primarily Christian Victorians. I am also interested in the humanists of the era such as George Eliot. And contrasting authors such as Charlotte Bronte and Christina Rossetti who remained deeply spiritual.
Basically, I have all these ideas yet I can't seem to come up with an original angle or question as my working title. I was wondering if any of you coud help me?
Some of the titles I've flirted with are 'George Eliot and religious doubt' , 'George Eliot, the romantic humanist'- which I think are far too broad and will have been covered too many times. Also I thought of a contrast dissertation between Bronte and Eliot and their works and spiritual differences but I couldn't think of a worthy question.
If anyone could help me, I would be most grateful!
Thank you.
