what is a good setting for my mafia story?

i'm writing a mafia story, i have the plot, the characters and everything sorted out except the setting.
any ideas?

the story is based in the 1940's and 50's, it needs to be a big city with lots of crime and a large Italian and Irish population.

Any ideas?
Or possible areas in the city it should be set?
