What is a good looking, sporty car that I can tune up and mod and that's an Automatic.?

Here is the deal, I will be needing a car for college. My mom and grandpa wants a car that is safe and nice(Automatic), I and my dad wants a car that is sporty and that I can tune up. I think we need to compromise here.

Any suggestions? I been driving for year, I'm 18 now and been driving a Toyota Sienna.

I thought of a Acura Integra GSR, very nice tuner car but the GSR model doesn't come with auto.
3k-5k range.
