I am looking to buy my first bike. I want a Harley Sportster but... This is my first bike. I know there's a possibility of it getting dropped and I've heard that since it is the sacred Harley Davidson brand, parts and pieces are expensive. I've tried to educate myself as much as possible on that brand. So that brings me to my next question. I'm 5'7" 160 lbs, 23 years old. I don't want/need a huge bike. So I've looked at Shadows and things around that size. I found a 2001 Suzuki Savage 650CC with 6,000 miles for $1,500. (I've read on here that people my age get told not to buy a bike because they're for recreational purposes and to save money. I'm not financing, I do have the cash) I was wondering if that is a good price and if so, how can I get parts down the road? It's a discontinued bike so does that affect the price/availability of parts? My ride to work is about 20 miles doing 70-75 MPH in my truck uphills and downhills both ways. Would that affect the performance of this model?
If so, is there another model think would be better? Any info is appreciated.
And my last question... Is this a good time to buy? 11/2/11 or will the prices of bikes get better as winter gets here? Or not enough of a drop to matter? I live in GA so it's about 65 degrees during the day and 35 at night right now.
