what is a good First car?

just wondering what you think a good First car is my cousins parents got him a 1997 Cadillac not a good First car in my opinion he just payed 1500 to get the brakes fixed
 
something that cost less than 2000 equals low repair cost, meaning cheap maintanance, also buy an american domestic car so that repair parts are available and cheap.
 
To be honest first cars are meant to be run down crappy cars unless your rich and mommy and daddy will buy u a brand new one (lucky people man i tell ya) If i had it my way my first car woulda been a mustang (OHH YEAHHH) but nope it is a 1996 Grand am SE four door. My dad bought me this car for 1500 new everything (or so the used car dealer said) the speedometer didnt work, well that was fine i just bought a navagational with my next pay check well that worked out great then ALL the gadges went out (dont ya just love how that works) I still have that car ive had it for 2 years now and it works great (aside for the gadges) and you have to realize that something will end up happening to ur first car and what if it was that new mercedies (yeah i suck a spelling lol) benz I'd be PISSSSSSSED lol.
