What is a good Earth Science investigation question for an non-understanding teacher?

I need a good earth science question that I can investigate, but my teacher doesn't seem to like my ideas. He asked me what I was investigating, but when I told him he blinked twice, squinted in confusion, and cocked his head to the side and didn't seem to like the idea at all. I'm thinking of something in the oceanography category but I don't have anything specific. Any ideas?

Parameters:
-Must be directly related to earth science
-Something that I can investigate easily (so I don't need to travel to the South Pacific to research it).
-Please avoid things that will take me countless hours on the weekend to conduct experiments
-Try and make it creative, but not too hard.

Thanks :)
