What is a good cylinder compression result for a 1988 3VZE Toyota engine?

Going to look at a used engine at an auto repair place in Brooklyn for my 88 Toyota 4Runner. The mechanic does not know the mileage but says it's a good engine. He quoted me $1500 parts and labor with a 3 month warranty. Not knowing the mileage, what else should I be looking for besides a good/decent cylinder compression result and what is a good/decent compression result for this engine? Ratio 9.0:1, Bore 87.5, Stroke 90. Thx
