What is a good cake recipe for a sculpture cake?

Pound cakes seem to hold up well to trimming and cutting. They do not crumb as much as regular cake recipes do.

Add a cup of sour cream to any cake recipe you choose though and it will be more flexible and moist, less likely to crumble and tear.

I am making a princess castle cake for my daughter's 4th birthday and I need a moist but durable cake recipe. I've made her birthday cakes in the past but nothing this complex. I would prefer that it has a good flavor since the guest of honor is quite the lover of sweets! Thank you in advance!
