What Is a Good Brand Bike?

Look on the local ebay and Craig's list for a shop quality bike. You should be able to find a nice one for the price of a Walmart bike. Look for Giant, Trek, Specialized, Schwinn, Fuji, Raleigh, Jamis, Diamond Back, and a few others. You can always post your selection for recommendations.

Thanks to the person who answered my other question ;)

The bike is really old and last time I took it in, cost more then the bike did to get it out of the repair shop.

I also found out the hard way....Walmart bikes suck lol. (sorry Walmart). The bike I have now is a yard sale one I picked up.

I bike daily with my dogs on a hiking trail. I want a mountain bike style (don't like those thin 10 speeds) and I'd like to find one that can withstand the elements (if its not thundering I've ridden the bike in the rain as well).

Any ideas on a good brand? Thanks

Most quality bikes can handle the elements (although steel can rust) but will need extra care of the components when they get wet. I commute in all kinds of weather & make sure I clean & lube the major drive components after riding in the rain & especially snow.

My current bikes are a Giant AC (full suspension) and my favorite, a Moots Rigormootis titanium. Giant is lower end, but they do make good bikes (the AC was a short-lived great bike). The Moots is a top end hard tail.

Other bikes that are usually great are Specialized, Trek, and Cannondale. Just remember, if you want a great mountain bike with good components, you won't get it for under $1000 (and probably more like$2000+).

Specialized makes really nice bikes. I have a Specialized Hardrock and I love it! It is great on paths and in rain or mud. But it depends on how much your willing to spend. Mine was like $500 i think, but there are many more kinds of Specialized mountain bikes. Check this site out....
