what is a good book by a famous author?

ME!!!

New member
for a 8th grade assignment i need a book by a very, very famous author who must be dead (and for awhile, no recent novels)....it needs to be a challenging/advanced book but something a 13 year old girl will actually enjoy reading. thanks!!
thanks for those ideas, unfortunately those authors (S.E. Hinton and Lois Lowry) are still alive. i'll try to read them anyway, i'm always looking for new books. thanks again! but i still need help...

Try A Tale of Two Cities, or something by Jane Austen...probably Pride and Prejudice. They are both famous authors, both dead, and their works are classics. Both of them will take some getting used to (because they wrote differently back then) But give them a chance, both are excellent.

The Messenger by Lois Lowry (Not sure if dead!)

The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton (Not sure if dead!)

Spite Fences

1984, by George Orwell.
Orwell wrote this book in the '40s. In his fictional 1984, the government controlled society. There was a telescreen in every room, listening to and watching every move and every sound. Friendships and relationships were discouraged. Freedom of speech didn't exist - people disappeared if they became troublesome and outspoken. The book is basically about a man who tries to hide from Big Brother and the government. It's a very interesting book, one of the classic examples of a dystopian society. The language is easy to understand, and the vision of a government that watches your every move is pretty haunting.

Ok well I have 2-

1. Pride and Prejudice- Jane Austen
I only recently turned 14 (like, 2 weeks ago) and I only read this book this year- it was FANTASTIC. The language is a little hard at times, but the story is very good.

2. Animal Farm by George Orwell
Animal Farm is actually like a fictional adaptation of the Lenin/Stalin conflict. It's really well written and is thoroughly enjoyable. I think though you should probably study the context a little because I first read this book when I was 12 and didn't really understand it until I did some research.

Hope I was of some help! :)

the outsiders by s.e hinton. Everyone knows tht novel im not sure if everyone knows the author herself, but she is popular due to the book and it is oyur grade read. Or the pearl by john steinbeck,i read tht in eighth grade and john steinbeck is legit one of the most famous american authors. I would say the pearl, although i do love the outsiders more.
