What is a good age to buy a child a cellphone?

I'm very curious about this? I feel like when I decide to have kids I will be considered "old" haha! I am 25 and plan to have them in late 20's early 30's!!! Anyway, my cousin is also 25 but she has a 5 year old, and Yes she bought him a cellphone! Is this normal? Ha! I thought this was the most ridiculous thing I ever heard... I just think 5 is wayyyyy too young for a cellphone? But then again, I havent been in kinderguardin for 20 years, maybe all the 5 year olds are walking around with the newest motorolas or blackberrys??? haha? What do you guys think?

GREAT! I see I am not along with thinking a 5 year old is too young for a cellphone. I must say, he is very smart for his age, but still 5 years???? That's crazy!
 
wtf? That is WAYYYYYYYY to young!!! I would say the best year is to get it would be during middle school!! NOT 5!
 
I'm 24, and I didn't get mine until I was 16. And that was because I was in Marching Band and needed to keep in contact with my mom. Five is wayyy too young. Who the hell are you gonna call? Big Bird? Dora?
 
thats crazy but not abnormal my friends 5 yr old lil sis got an expensive lap top and getting a cell phone at that age is ridiculous the least they should b is 12 or 13 i didnt get mine until i was 14 and that was 3 yrs ago
