i don't know about in depth but to me its any group of individuals who assimilate and subscribe to a set of social mores that they deem "acceptable".
we may not deem their societal behavior as acceptable but it is acceptable to them.
i.e. the difference in americans and the Iraqis. we have fundamental differences but each believe our own is the more acceptable
