What inspired John to write the new testament?

Jesus told the jews that he came to enforce the laws (old testament). John the bounty hunter, who hunted the Christians for the Romans wrote most of the new testament. Remember the new testament allows christians to eat port - the old testament prohibits. What was John motive to write the book - what inspired him?
