What important things should i know before i go and get ripped off by a car

audio salesman? So im buying a sound system for my boyfriends car, part of which will be a 12" subwoofer and amp which come togetherin one specific deal. I wondered how important the quality of the amp is and if its worth spending another 40 quid for an amp which must be better, but for reasons i cant even begin to understand.
All i need is something that'll give him the bass he wants but doesn't have to be incredible. Should I spend ages working out whats good about amps, or does anyone have any suggestions??

Atm im looking at a 1000w sony 12" subwoofer (will that be shit??) and an amp all together for £110. Am i mad??
