I'm creating a fictional character based on someone I knew many years ago with these physical problems. He also had trouble seeing in reddish or dim light. Now that I'm trying to describe him, I want to give some physical basis for these infirmities. The guy was in his early twenties when I knew him, and my impression is that he'd had these problems at least since he was a teenager. The more details you can provide, the better!
What illness or accident would give someone tunnel vision and make him hard of hearing?
