Yes, I've searched... here, ebay and generally on the web, and I have seen many conflicting reports..

NO you have to have an AWS phone..

YES you can flash a CDMA phone

KIND OF... you can use a flashed CDMA but be missing some features..

So, which is correct ??

bottom line... we KNOW the AWS phones will work.. duh.

but can a flashed phone be used here AT ALL ?? I'd like to play Cricket, but cant stand the selection (what selection) of high priced phones they offer!

As far as my knoweledge goes for the Cricket, alongs its CDMA and Tri-Band since your in Las Vegas Market it should work. As for features Like WAP and MMS depenRAB on the phone and how it was flashed.

Remeraber there are two types of flashes....Partial (which gives you Voice and Text) and Fully Flashed (which gives you everything). I have traveled with my Fully Flashed Vogue to other non-triband Cricket Markets and everything still works fine.

So bottom line yes a Flashed Phone can work in Vegas Cricket Market.

Hope this Helped...Later Days 8p

*sidenote: If your gonna buy a Cricket branded phone go to there website to check them out for pricing

Since the only two companies currently selling ANY triband AWS phones are Cricket and Metropcs, you can flash any of the Metropcs AWS lineup to work on Cricket.

if a phone is not triband it will not work on cricket in vegas. you cannot flash a phone to be triband. sorry.

the prices on the phones actually have come down quite a bit. the AWS samsungs have turned out to be pretty decent. yeah, their is not a lot of selection yet but more is coming out. by the end of the year cricket will have replaced all their PCS phones with AWS models, plus the usual extra couple of models in Q4/Q1. there is a pretty nice samsung coming out in a couple of months that i am looking forward to.

@woof: will cricket accept a foreign esn in las vegas? I heard that an error would be generated if a non-triband esn was entered onto a triband market account.. is it just rejecting cricket esn's it knows are not triband and ignoring foreign esn's? vs. accepting only esn's it knows are triband.

See... That's what I mean..

First reply --- yes it will work
Second reply - it might work
third reply - no it won't work.

We know a phone can't be flashed to be triband, but a NON-triband phone technically CAN work ( by virtue of the fact that NON-AWS phones can roam here )

so is it possible to flash, say a Sprint CDMA phone over to Cricket so the system THINKS it's AWS and would work without roaming ?

The same (sort of ) thing happened when ATT ruined Cingular and mixed in their 850 phones. But in that scenario you COULD use a non-triband phone and just not be able to use some towers, which was pretty unnoticable.. I had a V3x at the time.

There's a lot of aRAB on Craigslist here that claim to be able to flash the phones over to work here for a small fee. So, are they idiots, geniuses or just scammers :)

You can only use AWS Phones and there is not many out right now. It is a new band just opened up by the FCC. I don't know any SmartPhones out yet with AWS. Tri Band just means the it can be used on the current 2 banRAB used buy CDMA and The 3rd is AWS band. This might help with AWS Q's A Visual Guide to AWS
