I've found a few questions pertaining to this but they are all about 2 years old. In NC and SC waitress wage is $2.13/hr. plus tips. The most I've ever gotten was $2.50/hr. plus tips. What do waitresses make where you are and where are you?

Also, is it common knowledge that waitresses must tip out on their sales? i.e. if I sell $1000 worth of food and have a 3% tip out, no matter what I make in tips, I MUST pay the restaurant $30 out of my pocket for the bartenders, busboys, and hostesses to split. So, let's say every tip I got was 15% (man how I wish), I'd have $150 right? Nope I'd have $120, and then I would get to pay taxes as well. Yes $120 is a good amount of pay for a single shift, but $1000 nights are few and far between, just using it as an easy example. I think I've explained myself like I want but if you need any clarification just ask.

hello, to your first question here in Michigan in chain restaurants like Red Lobster, Red Robin, Chilies etc....they pay between (depending on experience) $300-$400. I have never been a waitress I admire those who are to my opinion its a mind job, I just couldnt remember peoples orders. lol. I would mess everything up, well back to the point my friend is a waitress at On the Border she gets paid $400 and her tips and she also has to give a percentage to the restaurant for other employees like you stated which sucks also she had to report her tip income to the IRS by law her restaurant did which also sucked because that lowered her refund by a few $100 dollars. that i know because I'm a tax preparer.

I also remember her being happy cause on a typical weekend she made around $400-$500 a day, friday, saturday

and on occasions and holidays she had days like $$700-$800 days. crazy. but rare. maybe one a month a the most.
