What honda D series transmission interchange?

all d series before 92 are cable after 92-95 the si and ex i know are hydro 96-2000 I think are all hydro but you can use any hydro from 92-2000 in your car
 
I have a 99 civic dx with a 5spd tranny that is starting to go out. I need to know what other transmission will bolt up to my car. I heard that some of the earlier d series trannys are cable instead of hydraulic, is that true? Please help me out. Thanks
