what hardy fish would you recommend i start with?

How big is your tank? Do you have a heater and a filter?

I always suggest zebra danios for beginners. They're almost impossible to kill, and they're pretty funny to watch.

And they're cheap. :)
 
Platy for me have been mega soft fish... They're dying and NOTHING else is in my tank. I have 2 koi gold fish, 6 or 7 killifish, and 2 plecos... They're all holding strong.

I've had 5 platy die and I have 2 males and 2 females alive still atm... Trying to get them to breed to fill up my tank.

I think little fish are harder to keep... I dono. Oscars are cool.

I would reccomend gold fish, they are relitivly hardy and easy to tak care of. just make sure you have a filter or are planning to clean the tank often because they are heavy poopers
 
It all depends on the size of the tank. If its 2.5 gallons, you can have 2 guppies, but make sure that the guppies are the same sex so they don't breed. If you have a 5 gallon tank, you can have 3- 4 guppies, but you shouldnt get them to breed. If you have a 10- 20 gallon tank you can breed guppies, but you have to get 1 male and 2 females becuase if you only have one female, she will get stressed and die. You will have to get a breeding tank. They are only like $4 at pet stores. When you sont want to have anymore guppies, don't use the breeding tank and the other guppies will eat the babies.
