What happens when you break up because of circumstance and not because the love ended?

Me and my ex broke up because he was heading to college and I was staying in high school in our home town. Now we talk on facebook and text all the time, flirt like we never broke up... but when I packed up the courage to discuss getting back together he said he still loves me but doesnt want a long distance relationship. Is he using me as security... that someone out there still loves him even though he is with all new ppl at college and is struggling to make his way? Or am i being used? We still talk all teh time. I miss him alot and he says he misses me. He even said he didnt think he could find a girl as perfect for him as i was in his college town. When he comes back in the summer could we be together? Or is it time to move on? Do i still talk with him or do i cut him out of my life? help me out
