what happens to the surnames of a same-sex couple after getting married?

Same as it is for heterosexual couples. You choose which last name you want to take. Although in heterosexual relationships it is tradition for the woman to take the man's name, the man can take the woman's name, they both could hyphenate, etc. It is a decision the same-sex couple would have to make before signing the marriage license. For me personally, I would hyphenate my name, or my partner would take my last name.

I think they can do anything they want, they can both add the other's to their name with a hyphen, or they can take their 2 names to make a new name with the letters from both names, or if they really want to they can just make up one.

Can be any way, for me, I would get his last name and also my last name, and hyphenate it together :)

Cach Ngo Doan & Duy Doan Ngo
