What happens to a car if i doesn't get run in a long time?

my mother bought a 06 civic but she hasnt had it registered yet because she hasnt sold her old car yet. it has been sitting unused and without being run for almost a year. what happens to the car and how much does it cost to fix it if something does go wrong?
 
first what does selling of old car has to do with registering new one pretty easy to have plates switch from one to the other

and if one cranks car that is park and let it run til it heats up or move it every once in a while it wil be fine for yrs just keep fuel in it dont crank it and fuel goes bad things rust
 
stuff starts to go bad...like fuel oil/fluids......electrical parts...seals dry out....u shud start the car at least once every 2 weeks and drive it around the yard at least once a month
