What happens If I put a 3G att card into a 4g palm veer?

Will it work? Will my speeds be 3G only? I bought a Supposely unlocked att palm veer from amazon. And I was wondering if my 3G sim card will work with it or if I need to take it to an att store and get q 4g one. Will it work because it's hspa to hspa+ wouldn't u have backwards compatibility?
 
it won't even work... 3g and 4g have completely different systems and 3g just wouldn't function inside of a 4g device. sorry.
 
4g phones have different sim cards than 3gs. so idk. they're different sizes. 4gs are smaller than 3gs. so how would it fit?
