what happens if a mother tested positive for marijuana at birth?

my freind just had a baby a few hours ago, and when she can out of the surgery room they said she tested positive for marijuana and she can onlly see the baby supervised and none of the family can see him. What are they going to do?? will they take him away from her? please no negative answers.
Will they release him to his father? he does not do anything like that, i can't even believe she tested positive.
She is in Minnesota and far as i know it is now a mandatory state rule. She not a pot head if anything she maybe have had a few hits that's all. She is a good person going through alot of stress the dad took off last month, super high blood pressure and no one is ther with her a few hits of a joint shouldn't incrminate her
and yes a police officer was in the room when she came out of the delivery room
 
What country are you in? and why would they just test her is it routine where you are? or were local authorities already involved you need to be more pacific for a question like this.All sounds a bit dodgy to me.
 
umm that does not sound right. They cannot literally test her while in labor unless they needed a urine sample from her and came across that she had used marijuana. That just doesnt seem right to me!
 
well they should take that baby away. what the hell was she smokin marijuana for? what a bad mother
 
First off...It's not illegal for the state to test a parent, especially if they have suspicion, so get your facts straight before you answer.(other comment)

The child may be removed from the parents and placed with the state or another family member while an investigation is being done.

Children's aid does not like to split children from families unless it's necessary, she will be on supervised visits until a case worker determines the severity of the "case"

Your friend made a big mistake, and needs to assess if she is ready to be a parent, or if adoption(open or closed) is a better option for the baby. It does not sound like she is ready to give up her "single" life.

How can you expect us not to give you a negative answer? Your "friend" seems like a very bad mother already! Who on Earth would smoke pot while pregnant? That's just horrible. Maybe she can go to Narcotics Anon, and get help.
 
This whole posts rings of bullcrap! They do not drug test the Mother at the time of the birth. That just makes no sense. The Hospital would also not keep the immediate family away from the baby. Where are you located?
 
Thats not good. I didn't even know they drug tested?? They should be more concered about hard drugs and leave mj alone. Thats safer to use then drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes but you don't see people bitching about that. They could take her baby away but as long as she stays clean she should be able to get the baby back. Its not like they have rehab for mj users, on the count that its not hard or addicting. As long as she stays clean she should be able to get her baby back, depending on state law, but like I said...its not like it was a crack baby, people need to educate themselves...here comes the thumbs down...
