Going to be changing the oil in a 1999 Toyota Camry this evening. What grade of motor oil do I get for the '99?

I've changed the oil in a 2007 Corolla and it takes 5w-30. I'm looking for clarification on what type of oil to get for the '99 Camry. I'm guessing 10w-30 but want to make sure.

Best answer should have a link to an authority site (Toyota forum, etc.) to verify that the information is legit. Thanks!

you guessed right. different oils for you car change throughout the year. in the winter you want 5w-30 and in summer when its hotter you want 10w-30. the "W" stands for winter lower the temp lower the number. when it comes to what type of oil, the best oil out there is "valvoline full synthetic". you also have the choice for "full synthetic high milage" for vehicles over 75000 miles.

It depends ENTIRELY on your driving conditions and climate. There is not one correct answer. Do you live in Florida? Alaska? Italy? Switzerland? Do you drive it every day or only a few times a year?

Do you have an owner's manual? It should offer very good guidance, and most Japanese cars have the middle-of-the-road safe oil rating written right on the oil filler cap.
