What good old days? You can buy things for pennies and nickels dirt cheap.............?

What do people mean by that? They say back then we could get a gallon of gas for 30 cents, snickers bars were only a penny, hamburgers were only a dime, cigarette packs were only a quarter, all I needed for 4 dollars to get to the city have fun and come back, ect,,,,, and all this?

Was it really better back then for the working class? Were they then able to afford more and have better purchasing power than today? Are people getting ripped off more THAN they did 30-40-50 plus years ago? Do you remember people complaining about gas prices, tobacco prices, food prices and all the other prices for things back then like they constantly do today? When old people brag about how great it was back in the day and how they mention how cheap things were,,, was it that much better for them and could they afford that much more than today for the same work?

Taxes are the primary contribute to high price, we pay .81 per dollar in taxes on gas, it was meant to pay for our infrastructure which isn't being done. Minus the wasted taxes we would be paying .60 a gallon for gas presently.

I don't know but it's very possible you could see the same trend in everything. We need to stay away from the Value Added Tax (VAT) because it would add to this exponentially.

In 1969 my dad made $12/hr and my mom made $9/hr ( $20/hr ) . They bought a house in L.A. , 3 miles from the beach for $26,000 ( 3 bdrm , 2 bth ) in a great neighborhood ( it's still great today ) 5 kids ( girls in 1 room , 3 boys in bunks in the other ) .Our first day , the neighbors came over to welcome us with food they had made . We lived good , had 2 new cars ( my dads work truck and a station wagon ) I used to deliver the newspaper at one point , when I would collect the monthly payment door to door , the tip was usually 25c , I could get an ice cream sandwich 15c , a soda 7c , pack of gum 7c . Loaf of bread was 15c , gasoline was less than 50c/gal . When you hitched a ride to the beach ( and you always got a ride when you stand on the corner and stuck your finger out ) usually the driver asked for 50c for gas . At Halloween , your 5 yr old brother could go trick or treating as long as an 8 yr old was with him . Ah yes , life was good ..............
